The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Mr. Sukhbir S Bolina has joined as principal of Gobind Sarvar School. The process of selection was robust in which many exceptional candidates were reviewed and interviewed. Mr. Bolina was selected due to his impressive qualifications and extensive experience. He will commence his principal-ship effective July 1, 2018.
Mr. Bolina has a multitude of qualifications and experience. After gaining his Bachelor of Science (Hons) specializing in mathematics, he completed his articles with a firm of Chartered Accountants in London, England. When he moved to Vancouver, Mr. Bolina soon gained his teaching licence and joined St. Johns School, Vancouver. Initially, he joined the school as a Mathematics teacher and eventually became the Head of Department. He enjoyed this position very much as this is his area of expertise. Due to his exemplary performance as Head of Department, Mr. Bolina has earned respect and admiration from students, staff and the administration. Mr. Bolina completed his Master of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
During the past 20 years, Mr. Bolina has seen St. Johns School grow from a small school of less than 150 students to a larger, but still small school that now caters to over 500 students. During this period, the school has changed in many ways. As a result of that change, he has gained experience at many levels and is proud to have been part of that success. We believe that his experience as an educator and an appreciation of how schools develop will be a definite asset to Gobind Sarvar.
During his work at St. Johns, he has not only played an important role in the academic success of students but have also created other opportunities for them. He has been an excellent mentor for Junior and Senior School Chess programs. Mr. Bolina has coached his chess teams to several top prizes at the Provincial, National and International levels.
Twelve years ago, Mr. Bolina undertook a groundbreaking project by taking 10 students on an international service trip with Habitat for Humanity. This program has grown to become a cornerstone of success at the school. Since its inception, he has led both student and adult teams on Habitat for Humanity Global Village trips to developing countries like Nepal, India, Costa Rica and Fiji.
We were very impressed with Mr. Bolina's outstanding background in curriculum and instruction, as well as his collaborative, student-centered approach towards leadership in a high-performing high school. As a result, we are confident that Mr. Bolina is the right leader to continue and further Gobind Sarvar's mission of providing a well-rounded, rigorous educational experience.
Mr. Bolina is excited to join Gobind Sarvar and is looking forward to building relationships with the entire school community.
